The Importance
of Dried Fig in Healthy Nutrition
The dried fig, which
is highly nutritive, contains fructose and glucose which
can easily be digested. The quantity of proteins in
it is more than twice as much as most of other fruits.
When compared to other fruits, it can easily be seen
that it is in the first rank in terms calcium, copper,
magnesium, potassium and sulfur, and in the second rank
in terms of energy, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, tlamin
and pyridoxine. It contains more calcium than the milk
does. Since it is the source of pectin substances, gives
the opportunity such as rejection of toxic substances
in intestines, decreasing the cholesterol level in blood,
and fast decrease of blood glucose in case of diabetics.
Having an important
role in nutrition due to its wide contents of minerals
and especially iron, dried fig cures the diseases seen
in children and especially pregnant women, and caused
by lack of minerals and vitamins. The presence of copper
in a quantity of 0.24 mg per 100 gr. facilitates the
absorption of iron by the body.
